During a recent town hall hosted by Fox News, Rogers argued that El-Sayed is uniquely vulnerable among Black and Jewish voters, two groups that typically form the backbone of Democratic support in Michigan. This strategy comes as the race enters its final two weeks, with Republicans attempting to frame the Democratic ticket as too far left for the general electorate.
Focusing on the influence within Detroit, Rogers claimed that local leaders and pastors are seeking a change in leadership. He pointed toward El-Sayed’s previous criticisms of former President Barack Obama as a point of contention that could dampen enthusiasm among Black voters. While Obama is scheduled to visit Detroit soon to campaign for El-Sayed and has already released videos supporting him, Rogers insists there is a growing disconnect between the nominee and the community he needs to win.
The GOP candidate also sees a strategic opening within Michigan’s Jewish community due to El-Sayed’s stances on Israel and Iran. Rogers suggested that even a modest shift in how Jewish Democrats cast their ballots could fundamentally alter the dynamics of the election. After citing strong attendance at recent events, Rogers expressed belief that many voters feel uneasy about El-Sayed’s rhetoric regarding foreign policy, creating an opportunity for Republicans to peel away thousands of historically reliable Democratic votes.
Other Republican figures joined the push during the event, tying current Democratic leadership to excessive government spending and socialist policies. Gubernatorial candidate John James criticized Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s spending habits while raising alarms about potential systemic fraud within state programs. Meanwhile, Representative Lisa McClain took a sharper tone, characterizing the modern Democratic platform as extreme and claiming they have moved beyond traditional liberalism into territory she described as communist.
